Athletic Edge – Sports Performance Training

Our programs emphasize proper posture and technique to help athletes develop an appropriate training base. This ensures that muscles are worked in the most efficient manner and helps to prevent imbalance that can lead to injury. Conditioning is kept fast paced and fun. Variety is ensured by using state-of-the-art fitness apparatus. Individual, team and small group conditioning is available for any sport, including soccer, basketball, lacrosse, tennis, baseball, softball, and volleyball. Based on current research, we have developed programs for different age groups.

Who’s training your athletes?

Athletics are a great way to foster physical fitness, leadership, teamwork, and commitment. Movements performed incorrectly or upon an unstable frame, however, can lead to long-term damage. Sports specific conditioning is not only recommended, it is essential to improving performance and staving off injury.

A crucial component to any conditioning program is having it designed and, most importantly, led by a certified strength and conditioning coach. Bainbridge Athletic Club is proud to have two CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) certified trainers with years of experience in the field. The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), CSCS is the gold standard in the industry. All candidates must have a four-year degree just to sit for the exam. Most training certifications do not require any experience prior to taking the test. Make sure those training your athletes, especially those youth who are at such a critical stage of growth, are qualified and certified to do so appropriately.

What sets Athletic Edge apart from the others?

  • Injury Prevention
Injury prevention, not rehab, is the foundation of our program development.  Joint stability (shoulder, hip and knee) is a major focus of the programs and  is essential when looking at long term health and success of the athlete.
  • Our Programs Are Science-Based
We utilize the most up-to-date research when developing our programs.  Using techniques and protocols that have been scientifically proven over and over again to be safe and effective, we increase the opportunity for  improvement and decrease the opportunity for injury.  Although bells and whistles may be fun to look at, they aren’t always the most appropriate tools for the training goal or for injury prevention. We utilize state-of-the-art equipment and build upon a foundation of proven training techniques.

  • Sport Specific Programs
The SAID principles state that the body will have "specific adaptations to imposed demands," that a certain exercise or type of training produces adaptations specific to the activity performed and only in the muscles (and energy systems) that are stressed by the activity.  This is the foundation of our sports specific training.  If you want to get better at volleyball, you have to train the muscles and energy systems specific to the demands of volleyball, i.e. quick, explosive movements that are very short in duration and often repetitive for a short amount of time.

  • Coaching
Who is developing and coaching the programs, and training your athletes? Especially young athletes. At BAC our strength coaches are certified specialists (CSCS) and are doing both.  We coach youth and adults in a systems based program, from the ground up.  There is a large difference between leading a group in a training class and coaching the proper techniques. We also screen for imbalances and  inefficient movement prior to starting a program.  This allows us to individualize the coaching needed so progress can be made effectively. Melissa House and Maggie Miller are Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS), which is the gold standard in the field.  All other fitness staff used as assistants are highly qualified personal trainers.  We maintain a low trainer:athlete ratio to ensure that all enjoy a safe and effective workout.
