BAC Member Wins Silver Medal at 2012 US National Snowshoeing Championships
Keith Johnson of Poulsbo repeated as the silver medalist at the 2012 U.S. National Snowshoe Championships at Frisco, Colorado in the 65-69 age division. The race was on the edge of the Continental Divide at just under 10,000 feet. According to Johnson, "The altitude was brutal for us lowlanders." Johnson qualified for the national event with a first place finish at the Mount Shasta qualifying race January 29, 2012.
Johnson was the North Kitsap High School French teacher for 40 years and the former tennis coach. He retired from the Bremerton School District last year. Johnson continues to be actively involved in USTA senior tennis events, consistently among the top 5 in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, British Columbia, and Alaska.) Snowshoeing has become an excellent cross-training sport for him. The 2013 National event will be held in Bend, Oregon. He is a member of the Bainbridge Athletic Club.

What is Relay? It is an overnight relay-style event. Teams of people camp out around a track. Members of each team take turns walking/running around the track for the duration of the event. Food, games, and activities provide entertainment and fundraising opportunities. This is a family-friendly environment for the entire community!
